The book is great but I don't follow the plot. Besides, as you may see, I was temporarily taken by a French news item, on the telly, having the gall to criticize the honorable and venerable English tradition of binge drinking. For the French reader - this involves drinking the same amount of alcohol that the average French person drinks in a week/month/year (depending on location) in a single night. With comical results. There's a health side to it, of course, something about livers and stuff but the sight of my once fellow compatriots sprawling on the pavements, leaning on lamp-posts blowing their chunks, playfully taking swings at each other and getting arrested, all on French TV, filled me with a sudden nostalgia and national pride. But a four pack of Leffe and a bottle of Chateau d'Urinduchat '75 soon got me over it.....
